On one of his consulting room walls hangs a personalized autographed picture of Nelson Mandela, an icon of his time and a personal hero of Dr. Phillips. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr Phillips graduated Witwatersrand Technikon School of Optometry. In 1975 after a short program at the London Refraction Hospital in England, he spent the following 15 years in his own private practice in and around Johannesburg. He then moved with his family to Boston where he acquired a Doctor of Optometry Degree at the New England College of Optometry. Dr. Phillips has since worked in Cambridge as an Independent Eye Doctor for two different optical companies. He has now opened Brattle Square Optical – his own long anticipated specialty individual private practice. He is delighted to be back in Harvard Square. Dr. Phillips is a Contact Lens Specialist and fits not only disposable lenses, but Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses as well. With the huge over 40 population entering near vision problems or presbyopia, Dr. Phillips fits specialty multifocal lenses in a variety of materials whereby eliminating the frustration of putting on and taking off reading glasses. His expertise has resulted in numerous referrals from Opthalmologists as well as his current patients. His warm personality and sincere concern for each and every one of his patients is what he prides himself with.
